SMP refers to medical tattooing of the scalp used for camouflaging purposes. SMP can be used to camouflage baldness either as a standalone procedure for someone who does not want to undergo a hair transplant or combined with a hair transplant (afterward as needed or desired) to enhance a surgical result.

At other times, the micropigmentation can be used to camouflage a scar, for instance, a linear donor scar in the back of the head, with or without hair transplant into the scar.

What Is the Procedure Cost for SMP?

SMP or hair micro-pigmentation is a very affordable answer to balding men and women.

Every client has a unique situation so we cannot provide exact costs, but we can provide potential clients with a cost estimate based upon an initial consultation.

Your cost depends on how much of a procedure is needed. In all it is decided on any special requirements you may have and how many hours of session time you will require.

The average client with a receding hairline and thinning hair on top, should expect to pay about $1,000 most of our customers fit this category.

SMP Pricing will be less If your hair loss isn’t as severe. If you have full density and your hairline just needs a slight reconstruction.

The Process

The scalp micropigmentation is undertaken using a special machine outfitted with sterile, disposable instrumentation to deposit pigment at the surface of the scalp to decrease the color contrast between hair and bald scalp. SMP is as much an art as it is a science, and our team has extensive experience performing a variety of micropigmentation methods. Most oftentimes, the technique involves the placement of very fine dots that are color matched to the hair or a shade darker than the native hair to simulate natural hairs.

In short hairstyles, it can mimic natural hair and work very well with this type of hairstyle. In completely shaved heads, it can be used either to camouflage previous donor scars or to simulate hairs that would appear in a non-balding scalp. There are many different scenarios in which scalp micropigmentation can be applied and there are a variety of methods used to accomplish those objectives.

Aftercare

To ensure that you get the best possible outcome from your SMP treatment we advise that you follow these recommendations:

As well as any individual advice that your practitioner will have given you, such as how frequently to cut your hair, there are few pieces of advice you should follow immediately after your treatment.

You should avoid showering your head for the first 4 days after your final treatment, and then have a light warm (not hot) showers for another 4- 5 days. After the first week you can start to shower normally using a light shampoo or one containing only natural ingredients. Please ensure that you moisturize daily after showering as your skin will be very dry.
Avoid swimming, saunas, and steam rooms for one month after your final treatment as this can cause fading to your SMP treatment.
Keep the treated area out of the sun for 30 days after your treatment. After you should use sun- blocking lotion with a high SPF factor (30+) at all times. If in bright sunlight , we recommend re-applying sun factor every hour during the day and wearing a hat or cap in between to give your scalp a rest from the sun.
If you need to return for any further treatment, we cannot treat any scalp with sun damage, you would have to wait until your scalp heals.
In order to allow SMP treatment to be successful you should avoid any heavy exercise for 14 days after your final treatment. It is recommended that you slowly build up your exercise regime over the following month. This is to allow the SMP treatment to settle in your scalp and not be disturbed by excessive sweating.
You should moisturize regularly after 4 days’ post – final treatment using Nivea after sun product or with an all- natural ingredient moisturizer.

Shampoo:

We recommend using Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo with Peppermint, Tea Tree and Eucalyptus Botanicals.

Tatwax Soothing Balm:

Made in USA. Tatwax Original Soothing Balm is natural science at it’s best! It is enriched with essential vitamins and soothing aloe vera. It is also free of lanolin, alcohol and petroleum.

Anti-Matte Moisturizing:

Some clients suffer from oily scalp, which can give a shiny appearance to their head. Using a anti matte moisturizer to reduce the effect of any shine.

We recommend using Pinaud Clubman Powder. Please note it is important to continue using moisturizing cream before applying an anti-matte formula.
